Talented Musicians - The Doughboys

Gar Francis is an excellent songwriter and results like these, where his music is placed over and over again in TV shows around the world and in the US, proofs that statement. But we all know that behind ever good songwriter needs to be talented musicians. The Doughboys is that band; time after time they deliver with great performances not only live but also on two great studio albums (Is It Now? and Act Your Rage, Shakin Our Souls).

Their 3rd album ROCK N' RAW which is their full length LIVE album plus a "documentary style" DVD about the band; is creating sensation around the world. Giving fans and new fans, the opportunity to see them live, and experiencing the Doughboys live in the comforts of the own living room. If you don't have the DVD yet I would recommend to get the DVD double pack from the Doughboys directly at http://www.thedoughboysnj.com/ and let me know what you think mgrimme@aol.com. This band is great and their songwriters Gar Francis and Richard X Heyman are talents in a league of their own.

"SHINE ON" new EP by Garage Rocker Gar Francis.

"SHINE ON" new EP by Garage Rocker Gar Francis.
Gar Francis Gar Francis sounds effortlessly vintage-cool as he again proves what rock & roll sounds like from where it truly originated - the garage. "Shine On" is the new EP from singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer Gar Francis. Gar indeed shines his musical talent through "clouds of pink majestic skies" as he uses lyrics like "baby boomers sit back and take view, graffiti masters Peter Max tattoos". Yes, music world  "Shine On" is here and with all the psychedelic rock coolness you would expect from a rock & roll veteran.

Produced by Gar Francis and Kurt Reil at the House Of Vibes. It's undoubtedly a
brilliantly consistent EP. It is obvious these five tracks are not only TV/film-synch ready, but a must have in your music collection.

"Shine On" is here and with all the psychedelic rock coolness you would expect from a rock & roll veteran. "Shine On" the new solo EP from Doughboys guitarist Gar Francis continues with that 60's Garage Rock sound that we have come to know and love so well.

 SONG TITLES
1. SHINE ON
2. BACK IN 1985
3. BLUE CADILLAC
4. TRAGEDY
5. I'M STILL ALIVE

The first track "Shine On" starts with that 60's psychedelic groove.
Next comes "Back In 1985" with a 60's type ballad feel reminiscent of a Phil Spector production.
"Blue Cadillac" is a bluesy groove with production from the same inspiration as the Black Keys.
"Tragedy" is a pure 12 string guitar based song about the equal opportunity everyone has in finding themselves homeless.
And "I'm Still Alive" is an old Who type song declaring that the child inside still remains many years after.

“American Idol” Kelly Caruso On Prime Time TV This Month.

Catch “American Idol” ’08 & ’10 Kelly Caruso on a new episode of the Bongo Boy Rock n’ Roll TV show starting this week on Comcast Cable.

Kelly Caruso, who grew up in Pittstown, Hunterdon County,
New Jersey has just released her first single on the Bongo Boy Record label. We caught up with Kelly and learnt during the TV show interview that Kelly has been singing since a very young age, and made it twice to Hollywood as an American Idol, first on season 7 in 2008 and again on season 9 in 2010. She also tells us that her father, Mike Caruso bass player of the legendary 60’s Garage band The DOUGHBOYS, has been and still is a very important influence to Kelly’s music career. She talked about her great great great uncle opera singer Enrico Caruso and her experience about being an American Idol in Hollywood.

Her first single “Born Dainty” written and produced by veteran musician Gar Francis is making a great impact in the music scene. Two weeks after its official release the single has been placed in a movie about the Nashville Derby Girls, premiering at the Nashville film festival next
month. Radio stations are playing the single and Kelly also tells us that her cover band Garden State Radio has been touring all over the country at various night clubs and casinos to packed houses.

“Born Dainty” is a modern country rocker shows off an incredibly powerful voice that would give Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert a run for their money.
The Bongo Boy Rock n’ Roll TV show is hosted by Wayne “O” Olivieri and produced and directed by Monique Grimme. Recorded at SHOWTIME Boutique in Belvidere, NJ and airing twice a week on Monday’s and Thursday’s night at 7:30pm. Bongo Boy Records release’s Genya Ravan

“I Won’t Cry Anymore” the new single on Bongo Boy Records, written and produced by Gar Francis, unleashes a powerhouse with the vocal dominance of New York City icon Genya Ravan.

For those of you who don’t know, Genya lead the successful all girl group Goldie and the Gingerbreads in 1962 and was signed by Atlantic boss Ahmet Ertegun. A strong woman with a powerful voice she lead the horn based rock/fusion band Ten Wheel Drive in 1969. With numerous albums and singles to her name, she is still a major force to be reckoned with. “I Won’t Cry Anymore” recaptures that authentic R&B of yesteryear and gives the listener a ringside seat to the evolution of a sophisticated women’s strengths and emotions.

This new release by writer/producer Gar Francis is a sonically polished, deceptively effortless and relentless tune that is everything we've come to expect from his pen. Indeed, this is as close as we may get today to a true emotional blending by a talented songwriter and a legendary singer.

“I Won’t Cry Anymore” celebrates liberation on all fronts with lead and background vocals from the pipes known as Genya, instantly recognizable guitar chunks & keyboards by Gar, smooth as dark chocolate bass by Danny Caruso, and precision drumming by rhythm king Bobby Chen.

This third Bongo Boy release is again mixed by the Gar Francis/Kurt Reil team at the House of Vibes in Highland Park NJ and mastered by our favorite drumming Grip Weed.

“I Won’t Cry Anymore” is available as a digital download at CD Baby, iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, etc.

Ballerina Of The Bowery - New Single by Producer/Songwriter Gar Francis

Gar Francis wastes no time getting down to business and releases the next single "Ballerina Of The Bowery" on Bongo Boy Records.

Through it all Gar Francis’ durable song craft and creative lyrics are woven through a Bo Diddley Beat on this new single. Resulted in a song, that with no wonder to us all, created a powerful La Femme Garage Rock tune. This has been unseen for quite some time.

The music arrives buffeted to immaculate studio sheen, of course, with mastering, engineering done by The House Of Vibes’ Kurt Reil of the Grip Weeds.

Exceptionally vocal talents were used to record this new single written and produced by Gar Francis.

The alluring voice is coming from New York Rocker Jana Peri. Ms Peri brings a sophisticated style to the Rock & Roll table. Along with backup vocals by Jacob Callis both show no musical boundaries.

This gem “Ballerina Of The Bowery” immediately reveals her charms after just one spin. It is to nobody’s surprise that you will proudly wear this song as it sticks to your skin. You can easily see a whole New York street scene, as this Ballerina of the Bowery gets a hold of you with her daily dedicated passion for dance. It sets up a perfect movie scene!

There is a cathartic fade-out, featuring stinging guitar lines from Gar Francis, drum beats by Kurt Reil and fat thick bass licks from Jacob Callis concludes this rockin' track.

Ballerina Of The Bowery is available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and other fine online stores as a digital download only.

Get it today and hear what they are talking about, without it you don't know Diddley !

The Doughboys at Sullivan Music Hall NYC

See THE DOUGHBOYS live as they celebrate the release of ACT YOUR RAGE at Sullivan Hall in NYC on Friday, February 5, 2010; at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ on Friday, February 12, and at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ on Saturday, February 13, 2010.
They’ve done it again! Plainfield, NJ’s favorite sons, THE DOUGHBOYS, have come up with another stupendous slice of the catchiest rock’n’roll this side of the Passaic River!

Their second album ACT YOUR RAGE took the world by storm on January 1, 2010 when THE DOUGHBOYS unleashed sixteen new songs concocted once again with the able assistance of recording engineer KURT REIL (Grip Weeds) & mastering engineer ED STASIUM (Ramones, Living Colour, Smithereens, Marshall Crenshaw).

Two songs from ACT YOUR RAGE - I’M NOT YOUR MAN and WHY CAN’T SHE SEE ME? - have already been chosen as the Coolest Songs In The World by LITTLE STEVEN VAN ZANDT on his UNDERGROUND GARAGE show on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio! You may recall that THE DOUGHBOYS’ first single off their debut album, BLACK SHEEP, was likewise honored by LITTLE STEVEN & CO. & in fact was named the #2 Coolest Song in the World for all of 2008!

THE DOUGHBOYS consist of Myke Scavone, lead vocals; Richard X. Heyman, drums & vocals; Gar Francis, guitar & vocals; & Mike Caruso, bass & vocals. THE DOUGHBOYS were one of the most popular of central Jersey’s bands in the ‘60’s. Mike & Richie formed the group with guitarist Willy Kirchofer in the fall of ‘64 & called it The Ascots. A year later Mike Farina & Myke Scavone from rival band The Apollos came on board. The Ascots changed their name to The Doughboys in ‘66 & got a recording contract with Bell Records by winning a battle-of-the-bands on Zacherle’s Disc-o-teen TV show. They put out two singles – “Rhoda Mendelbaum” & “Everybody Knows My Name”, as the band played weekly WMCA Good Guys shows all over the tri-state area.
Here is a video taken by Unsteady Freddie at Otto's Shrunken Head, NYC
You Really Got Me by The Kinks done on that awesome night by The Doughboys!!

They were the house band at the legendary CafĂ© Wha? in Greenwich Village during the summer of ’68.
Come and see THE DOUGHBOYS live as they celebrate the release of ACT YOUR RAGE at Sullivan Hall in NYC on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7:30pm
