Bongo Boy Records Presents The Return of Mark Lindsay

February 2013

Mark Lindsay, former lead singer/songwriter/producer and co-founder of the seminal 60's Garage Rock band Paul Revere& the Raiders has released "Like Nothing That You've Seen," the first single from his upcoming.
The song was co-written and produced by Gar Francis, songwriter/guitarist of New Jersey Garage Rock veterans, the Doughboys. "Like Nothing That You've Seen" features backing vocals by Myke Scavone (Doughboys), Kurt Reil (Gripweeds), and special guest, Little Steven Van Zandt. The single follows in the butt-kickin' footsteps of Lindsay's classic 60's tracks with the Raiders like "Kicks," "Stepping Out," "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" and "Just like Me."

"I first met Mark Lindsay when I was recording the new Doughboys album Shakin' Our Souls," explains co-writer/producer Gar Francis. "I had asked Kurt, the owner of House of Vibes, if he knew of anyone who could add saxophone to a track I was working on called 'It's A Crying Shame.' Kurt mentioned that he was doing some sessions with Mark Lindsay, the singer from Paul Revere and the Raiders, who was also a great sax player.
"Mark came down and added the sax parts and also sang background vocals for the track. As he was leaving the session, I had casually mentioned that if he ever wanted to collaborate on some songs to give me a call. Well after he returned home to Florida, he gave me a call and we started working on songs via e-mail for the next three months, producing a boat-load of tunes for a new Mark Lindsay album.

"'Like Nothing That You've Seen, is one of the first songs we came up with, and we decided to go into the studio to cut and release it as a single before the album. I wanted Mark to return to his Garage roots and I think we did a good job of capturing that spirit. I hope you dig it as much as we do. "

PALMYRA DELRAN As the founder, songwriter and creative soul of “trashy pop band” The Friggs, Palmyra Delran built a working model for the ideal punk girl group. After playing drums in the band Pink Slip Daddy, she began writing songs with Pink Slip Daddy bandmate Ben Vaughn (composer for “3rd Rock From the Sun”, “That 70’s Show” & “Psycho Beach Party”).The Friggs released debut CD "Rock Candy" and singles collection "Today is Tomorrow's Yesterday", toured incessantly throughout the ‘90s, opening for the Selecter, the Ramones, the Fleshtones, and Cheap Trick among others. They were also included in the movies "Superbad", "Jawbreaker", "Lipstick & Dynamite", and "Prey for Rock & Roll". On her first solo debut EP titled "She Digs the Ride", Palmyra flirts with charm, surf rock, dysfunctional relationships, and solid guitar grooves described as “that fried Yardbirds tone mixed with early Stooges grime and oopsy-daisy pop”. Palmyra's song "Baby Should Have Known Better" was picked by Little Steven as the "Coolest Song in the World" in November '08, then voted "Coolest Song of 2008" by

Underground Garage listeners, and featured on the show’s CD compilation, The Coolest Songs in the World Vol. 8, out now on Wicked Cool Records. A digital single and video “Lies For You” was released in late 2010. Palmyra then toured Scandinavia backed by Swedish band Stupidity, playing shows with Norwegian gals The Cocktail Slippers. 2012 saw the release of punk rock kids CD called KinderAngst, a collaboration with NYC songwriter Rachelle Garniez, and a special appearance from Debbie Harry. “KinderAngst” is getting the thumbs up from punk rock kids and parents too. Her digital single “You’re My Brian Jones” was released in Sept 2012, and was voted #6 Coolest Song of 2012 by Underground Garage listeners, and #1 by Little Steven. Palmyra’s full length CD “You Are What You Absorb” will be released on March 5th 2013. “The title comes from a lifetime of absorbing music and pinching production ideas.
Not just listening to music, but deconstructing it and putting it back together my own way” as described by Palmyra. It was recorded by Craig Dreyer at Mighty Toad Studio Brooklyn, and mixed by Geoff Sanoff at Stratosphere Sound Studio NYC, & INTL HQ Brooklyn. Palmyra is joined by KinderAngst collaborator Rachelle Garniez on Farfisa, Hammond B3, Harpsichord, Michael Lynch on bass, Mark Brotter on drums, Richard Devgreene on guitar, as well as guest backup singers the Cocktail Slippers, Betsy Todd, & Jenifer Jackson. “Any medium can influence any other medium”, Palmyra explains. “I arrange songs like John Waters edited “Polyester”. There’s something happening all the time. Guitars stepping on Farfisas, climbing over sitars, knocking into Stylophones, tripping over bongos. Controlled chaos.”

Bongo Boy Records Present Jersey's GiGi

Album cover - photo by Denise A Dabinett Design Monique
A creative singer songwriter who focuses on music that will make you have a good time. Whether she writes about going out, or a heartbreak, she does it in a way that will make you feel good. Her unique style mixes a little Pop, a little Rock, and sometimes a little Hip Hop over a Dance beat. She has a style that is heavily influenced by 80's pop hits looking up to artists like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper & Prince. Her roots began with poetry and writing creative stories at a young age. She started combining her musical talent and her poetry in 2010 where she started writing her first song. From there she has grown very rapidly with her hit songs. GiGi has opened up for P. Diddy's Donnie Klang, been featured on Jerseylicious, Rutgers Radio, opened at the Blueclaws Minor League Baseball Stadium and currently hit the charts at #30 Pop Artist in her area. One of her songs was also featured in an indie movie as well. A local to the Jersey Shore, GiGi is the perfect mix of modern day Pop Dance influenced by the 80's and she is certainly the one to look out for in 2013.

Talented Musicians - The Doughboys

Gar Francis is an excellent songwriter and results like these, where his music is placed over and over again in TV shows around the world and in the US, proofs that statement. But we all know that behind ever good songwriter needs to be talented musicians. The Doughboys is that band; time after time they deliver with great performances not only live but also on two great studio albums (Is It Now? and Act Your Rage, Shakin Our Souls).

Their 3rd album ROCK N' RAW which is their full length LIVE album plus a "documentary style" DVD about the band; is creating sensation around the world. Giving fans and new fans, the opportunity to see them live, and experiencing the Doughboys live in the comforts of the own living room. If you don't have the DVD yet I would recommend to get the DVD double pack from the Doughboys directly at http://www.thedoughboysnj.com/ and let me know what you think mgrimme@aol.com. This band is great and their songwriters Gar Francis and Richard X Heyman are talents in a league of their own.
