With the new 60's garage rock vibe that is coming from Bongo Boy Records' new holiday release, your season will not be the same.
A new single that is powered by the pen of Veteran songwriter Gar Francis who recruited a pair of high-profile musical pals for assistance on this new release "Let's Have A Rockin Christmas" hits the digital download stores and radio stations this month.

You'll be compelled and impassioned about this single to add it immediately to your iPod and seasonal playlist as soon as you hear it.

The name that was used for production is Jackie Kringle & The Elves, which after a quick study of the album cover is a rude awakening for you Doughboys fans- so don't judge this single by its cover!

With winsome vocals by Doughboys front man Myke Scavone and smooth baselines from Doughboy Mike Caruso, Gar Francis made a wise decision to get together with these two boys for the holidays. The three wise men from the East will rock your seasonal socks off with this single.

The song is lyrically diverse, funny and witty and musically satisfying as you will not find anything on it that is close to "The First Noel" or "O Holy Night". "Let's Have A Rockin Christmas" is produced by Gar Francis, whose unique 60's style of writing and producing placed this single center stage on the Garage Rock music arenas. Gar delivers a great atmospheric envelope seasonal track that definitely will kick up some ruckus in the rock 'n' roll world. Francis certainly found a way to do something that's undeniably his own again. No doubt this resonates with Bongo Boy Records as they add this single to their collection. Engineered, mixed & mastered by dream team member Danny Caruso and recorded at the Penthouse in New Jersey.

Gar Francis wastes no time getting down to business and releases the next single "Ballerina Of The Bowery" on Bongo Boy Records.
Through it all Gar Francis' durable song craft and creative lyrics are woven through a Bo Diddley Beat on this new single. Resulted in a song, that with no wonder to us all, created a powerful La Femme Garage/Rock tune. This has been unseen for quite some time.
The music arrives buffeted to immaculate studio sheen, of course, with mastering, engineering done by The House Of Vibes' Kurt Reil of the Grip Weeds.
Exceptionally vocal talents were used to record this new single written and produced by Gar Francis.
The alluring voice is coming from New York Rocker Jana Peri. Ms Peri brings a sophisticated style to the Rock & Roll table. Along with backup vocals by Jacob Callis both show no musical boundaries.
This gem "Ballerina Of The Bowery" immediately reveals her charms after just one spin. It is to nobody's surprise that you will proudly wear this song as it sticks to your skin. You can easily see a whole New York street scene, as this Ballerina of the Bowery gets a hold of you with her daily dedicated passion for dance. It sets up a perfect movie scene!
There is a cathartic fade-out, featuring stinging guitar lines from Gar Francis, drum beats by Kurt Reil and fat thick bass licks from Jacob Callis concludes this rockin' track.
Ballerina Of The Bowery is available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and other fine online stores as a digital download.

GAR FRANCIS
Jersey Boy at the Top of His Musical Game
Jersey Boy at the Top of His Musical Game

Singer-songwriter Gar Francis to perform at NJAI
By Carol Selman Email the author 9:11am

Veteran singer-songwriter Gar Francis is doing exactly what he wants: He's leading his own electric and acoustic bands, plus a blues band — Plainfield Slim and the Groundhawgs, releasing albums on his own Bongo Boy records and performing Americana music as a solo act. In addition, both Francis' award winning lyrics and sideman guitar duties have helped propel the legendary 60's garage rock band, the Doughboys, to their current national fame.
This Saturday, 8 p.m., at the New Jersey Arts Incubator, Essex Green, West Orange, Francis is bringing in a band that covers all his bases.
"It'll be an acoustic band, me on rhythm guitar and vocals, another guitarist to sweeten it, bass, and percussion," Francis said. "I don't want to pigeonhole it — we'll cover a spectrum of American music — some rock, some blues, a little country, some folk."
You can't pigeonhole Francis, either. After 40 years in music, the lanky, Plainfield-born and reared Francis is enjoying it all. "I don't even think about it, the music and lyrics just seem to be pouring out," Francis said.
Born Gary Thomas Venittelli, the first music that grabbed Francis was Sinatra's. "I came from a big, New Jersey Italian-American family and as a kid in the late '50s, early '60s, my dad would play William B. William's "Sundays with Sinatra" on the car radio while we drove to the relatives. My stage name is a tribute to Francis Albert Sinatra and to my Dad," Gar said.
Why Sinatra? "He was the master of telling a story with the lyrics," Francis said. "For me, music is like a beautiful woman — the melody of song, a woman's looks are what initially attract you, but it's the words she says or the lyrics of a song which grab you by the heart."
Francis' first gig was playing with his rock band at his Catholic school during high school. During the 1970s, he and the Rockids were a fixture at Max's Kansas City and CBGB's. By the '80s, he was writing songs and also playing the Keith Richards' parts in the Rolling Stones Tribute Band, Sticky Fingers.
Tired of touring, for a time Francis's songwriting supplanted the performing. He resumed performing, but continued to write hits for an array of performers, including blues diva Jeanne Dozier, for whom he wrote and produced the acclaimed album, "Queen of Dreams."
Now, Francis is concentrating on own performances and his work with the Doughboys. His first solo folk album, "Love and Protest," recently was released
"I think everything is working, because I'm at a point at where I really understand the roots of my music," Francis said. "I tell all the 'newbies' coming up, go back and listen to the blues, to the folk legends, to early rock, some jazz."
Francis has netted awards from the Unisong Music Writing Awards and by the John Lennon and Billboard song writing contests.
"I'm also at a point when I know exactly who I am — a Jersey Boy. I love it here; we have it all," Francis said. "New York City, the mountains, the shore."

Gar Francis also guest stars on the single, playing organs, Mellotron, sax and the raunchiest guitar this side of the T. Rex.

Gar Francis backs up his bark

New Single Release:
Gar Francis backs up his bark with a promising bite with a new production of a single by The EASY OUTS “Come On, Come On” on Bongo Boy Records release date: June 22, 2010.

“Come On, Come On” is a collaboration between songwriter/guitarist of the legendary 60’s Garage rock band The Doughboys, engineer and owner of House of Vibes Kurt Reil (Kurt is also drummer/singer and songwriter for the Grip Weeds) and the Jersey Shore rock band The Easy Outs.

"I Dig It" - The New Single Of The Easy Outs

The other day I got an e-mail asking me to review the new single by the band the Easy Outs.

At first I thought their PR person had made a mistake as people usually want me to review an album or EP. She reassured me that they indeed only wanted the single reviewed. Thus I can't really speak much about these guys as this is the one and only song of theirs I've heard...so far.

I dig it.

This is pure simple rock and roll. I love this stuff. This New Jersey band has something going on and that something is FUN. Basically, I dig his voice – a lot and the guitar player can wail. Add in a drummer who is spot on and a solid bass and you have a rock and roll classic.

The organ around the edges reminds me of 1950's rock or perhaps a 1980's parody of 50's rock in the style of the Dick the Bruiser Band. (Anyone out of Detroit will remember those guys.) When you add simple lyrics to the mix Come On Come On cut me loose baby Come On Come On you make a monkey crazy you have gold.

All I can say is thank God. I'm so sick and tired of that young sensitive deep thinking poet crap. ( Nic Stevens I'm talking to you.)

Bottom line: 4 scowls out of 5 on the Grouch scale. Would I go see these guys live? Yes I would!

The Doughboys, who first formed in 1965 and reunited in 2000, have surprised the wits out of everyone by becoming one of the hottest bands in the country today. Their music is being played on radio around the world and they’re knocking audiences out at top venues such as B.B. King’s, Maxwell’s, The Stone Pony and Havana’s, and sharing the bill with luminaries like The Pretenders, The Yardbirds, Robin Trower and The Electric Prunes.

The Grip Weeds are a veteran power pop/psychedelic rock band of the highest order - a gorgeous alchemy of the 60's and 70's brought into the 21st century, with ripping guitars, explosive drumming and soaring harmonies. The Grip Weeds take all of these elements and turn them into "something quite original... and quite cool", as Little Steven says, attracting retro pop fans and sophisticated modern rock audiences from New Brunswick to Liverpool.

The Village Underground is located in the basement of what was once the legendary Gerdes’ Folk City. In the 60’s Greenwich Village spawned the folk-rock craze that swept the country, and Folk City was at the center of it all. Everybody who was anybody played Folk City in the 60’s. Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Peter Paul and Mary, John Lee Hooker, Richie Havens, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Roger McGuinn, and even the Monkees were regular performers.

Gar Francis at Albert Music Hall -The Bank Of The River

On May 22 2010 Gar Francis performed at Albert Music Hall in Waretown, NJ. The song "The Bank Of The River" was a favorite by the staff of Albert Music Hall from day one when his manager emailed them Gar Francis' EPK.

A very nice email was received today Monday May 24th from Roy of Albert Music Hall:" Hi Monique,
Many thanks to Gar and band for playing at Albert Music Hall last Saturday. His "River" song is the best!... and his 12-string guitar player is absolutely great! His guitar "sings" with an almost unbelievable clarity and tone. The "box" player is a "first" for Albert Music Hall, and fit in beautifully with Gar's songs!

FYI- Three photos from Saturday night are attached. Please pass them on to Gar & band. Lower resolution versions of the first photo have been posted on the http://www.alberthall.org musician's photo pages.

Many thanks again to all,
Roy

---Possibly, we can see Gar's return next year on a "before intermission time" set.....???

Wishes do come true not only for Walt Disney!

Love & Protest - Gar Francis

------------------------------------------------------------------
News Updates:
Gar Francis – He’s been called the hardest working songwriter in America.

Writing and producing for such acts as, The Doughboys, Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs, Jeanne Lozier, The Easy Outs, Jackie Kringle & The Elves, as well as his own solo projects including a newly released folk album titled “Love & Protest” and a soon to be released Americana album “The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same” due in June of 2010.

Recruited in 2005 as guitarist and songwriter for the legendary 60’s rock band The Doughboys, his song “Black Sheep” from their acclaimed first album “IS IT NOW?” was voted by “Little Steven’s Underground Garage” on Sirius Radio as the #2 “Coolest Song In The World” for the year 2008. The new single “I’m Not Your Man” (also written by Gar) from the newly released second album by the Doughboys “ACT YOUR RAGE” has also been voted as the #3 “Coolest Song In The World” for 2009. The Doughboys continue to receive outstanding reviews in magazines and newspapers nation wide as well as radio airplay throughout the world.

As a side project Gar wrote and produced two garage blues albums “Another Mule In The Barn” and “When The Devil Hits Home” as Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs. Songs from both albums are receiving airplay around the world as well as here in the USA. “When The Devil Hits Home” was awarded “Album of The Week” on Baker Street Radio in France on December 27, 2009. The album was in the top 10 in the Netherlands. In January of 2010 the album was in the top 5 at Sweet Home Music in France.
Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs have recently opened up for Peter Tork of the Monkees, the Swinging Neckbreakers, and Moreland & Arbuckle.

Vintage Guitar Magazine published a raving review in their April 2010 issue on Plainfield Slim’s first album “Another Mule In The Barn”

In the early part of 2000 Gar wrote and produced the critically acclaimed blues album “Queen Of Your Dreams” for Blues Diva Jeanne Lozier.

In 2009 Gar Francis wrote and produced the single “Rocket” as a tribute for the troops serving in the Armed Forces and performed it live for the troops at Fort Dix, New Jersey in the summer of that same year.

In the fall of 2009 Gar wrote and produced the single “Let’s Have A Rockin’ Christmas” for Jackie Kringle & the Elves. The single received great reviews as a classic rock song for the Christmas season.

So far 2010 has brought the release of the second Doughboys album and the first Gar Francis folk album “Love & Protest” which includes 14 original songs of daily life experiences of ordinary people, as well as acoustic versions of “Rocket” & “Raise A Hand”. The lyric and music of the song “Rocket” was shared with Pete Seeger who has taken time out of his very busy schedule to write two letters to Gar regarding the importance of a song like “Rocket” that helps to keep the veterans in our minds and hearts. The folk album also includes a song that is a tribute to Bob Dylan, “Above The Restless Crowd (July 29, 1965)” that speaks about how “we put the weight of the world on the ones that speak out loud”.

Gar currently is finishing his upcoming Americana album “The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same“, on the newly formed Bongo Boy Records as well as writing and producing the new single “Come On, Come On” for the rock band The Easy Outs.

The past four months Gar has been out promoting the Doughboys, Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs, and the Gar Francis Bands (electric and acoustic) on such radio programs as WRSU, WDIY, WFMU, and WNTI, as well as live broadcasts on such cable shows such as, Time/Warner’s “New York Rocks“, Cablevision’s Folk Show “Horses Sing None Of It”, and Toms River’s “The Kenny and Vinnie Show”. With live shows at The Dewey Beach Pop Festival, the Hoboken Street Fair, the Blues Festival at Centenary College, The Record Collector in Bordentown, Vintage Vinyl in Woodbridge, Crossroads in Garwood, The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, Maxwell’s in Hoboken, Showtime in Belvedere, and upcoming shows at BB Kings in NYC with the Yardbirds, and Albert Hall in Waretown, Gar still finds time for his first passion, writing songs.

Gar has received awards for songwriting from The John Lennon Song Contest, the Unisong Music Awards, and an Honorable Mention in the Billboard Song Contest.

Doughboys guitarist Gar Francis' alter ego delivers a smoking debut.
"Slim" plays all instruments and is adept at everything, showing particular aptitude for blues drumming.

But... Mule is built in a wasp's nest of slide guitar, and Francis, who once took the Keith Richards role in a Rolling Stones tribute show, is razor sharp.
Speaking of the Stones, "Marlene" could be an out-take from Black And Blue. And the other elder whom Slim openly emulates is Chicago slide great Elmore James. He certainly took James as his role-model, vocally ("59 Minutes") and does a good job capturing the sweaty spirit of high-energy/low down blues.
Possessing genuine chops as singer, writer and guitarist, on "Dressing Drawer" and "Another Mule" he proves this album is more than just a day-tripper's lark.
Plainfield Slim is now working with a band - The Groundhawgs- which includes a couple of fellow Doughboys. It may have started as a send-up, but you have to be good at parody to make it work. Slim's better than good at it, and no matter how it started, it's too real to resist. - RA
