DOUGHBOYS/GRIP WEEDS AT THE VILLAGE UNDERGROUND – JUNE 18TH LET’S EAT CAKE AND SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SIR PAUL McCARTNEY!

The Doughboys and The Grip Weeds - two phenomenal rock’n’roll bands who are the darlings of Little Steven Van Zandt’s Underground Garage show on Sirius/XM - will be doing a joint gig at the Village Underground in New York City on Friday, June 18th, 2010. That date just so happens to be Sir Paul McCartney’s 68th birthday, and the bands will celebrate by serving free birthday cake to all comers and singing Happy Birthday to the cute Beatle. And yes, Sir Paul has been invited to the gig! The Village Underground is located at 130 West 3rd Street in New York City, (212) 777-7745, http://thevillageunderground.com/. The Grip Weeds will play at 7:30 PM, The Doughboys at 8:30 PM. Admission is $10.

Both bands have scored the coveted "coolest song in the world" appellation from Little Steven for releases from their albums, including three tunes ("I’m Not Your Man", "Why Can’t She See Me?", "Tuesday Afternoon") from The Doughboys’ latest Act Your Rage CD, and "Speed Of Life" from The Grip Weeds’ brand-new Strange Change Machine double-disc, whose release they will be celebrating at this show.

The Doughboys, who first formed in 1965 and reunited in 2000, have surprised the wits out of everyone by becoming one of the hottest bands in the country today. Their music is being played on radio around the world and they’re knocking audiences out at top venues such as B.B. King’s, Maxwell’s, The Stone Pony and Havana’s, and sharing the bill with luminaries like The Pretenders, The Yardbirds, Robin Trower and The Electric Prunes.

The Grip Weeds are a veteran power pop/psychedelic rock band of the highest order - a gorgeous alchemy of the 60's and 70's brought into the 21st century, with ripping guitars, explosive drumming and soaring harmonies. The Grip Weeds take all of these elements and turn them into "something quite original... and quite cool", as Little Steven says, attracting retro pop fans and sophisticated modern rock audiences from New Brunswick to Liverpool.

The Village Underground is located in the basement of what was once the legendary Gerdes’ Folk City. In the 60’s Greenwich Village spawned the folk-rock craze that swept the country, and Folk City was at the center of it all. Everybody who was anybody played Folk City in the 60’s. Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Peter Paul and Mary, John Lee Hooker, Richie Havens, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Roger McGuinn, and even the Monkees were regular performers.
